Community Risk Reduction Specialist
About the District
The Fenton Fire Protection District provides fire, rescue, and EMS services to over 27,000 residents across 19 square miles of St. Louis County, Missouri using an annual operating budget of approximately $20 million. The district is internationally accredited through the Center for Public Safety Excellence.
About the position
The Community Risk Reduction Specialist is responsible for public education coordination, engagement with community stakeholders, media relationships, and public information engagement. The district desires to have a comprehensive public education plan to improve its community risk reduction goals through various avenues including public speaking, education programs, media engagement, and administrative efforts. The ideal candidate is composed, comfortable with speaking engagements, and experienced in emergency services.

Qualifications
Candidates are required to have:
- A valid driver’s license
- ICS 100, ICS 200, NIMS 700, NIMS 800
- CPR Instructor (or within 1 year of date of hire)
- Missouri State Fire Instructor 1 (or within 2 years of date of hire)
- Within one year, the position shall complete the Advanced Public Information Officer training offered through the NETC/EMI.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Certifications in Communications, Emergency Management, or Public Relations
- 2-5 years of experience in public relations, media relations, or communications, ideally within a governmental or emergency services context
- Experience with provision of emergency services
- Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Administrative
- Document public fire and life safety educational activities
- Grant discovery and writing
- Assist with life safety, business unit, and community risk reduction administrative tasks
- Public education
- Development of a strategic public education and communications program
- Schedule, maintain, and conduct training using the district’s fire safety-training trailer.
- Assist with scheduling fire prevention training activities.
- Coordinate delivery of CPR, AED, CERT, and first aid training to residents and district businesses
- Coordinate car seat installation program
- Direct fire safety and emergency preparedness programs for commercial, educational, healthcare, and worship-based organizations
- Communications
- Serve as district’s public information officer
- Provide oversight for delegated public information officer roles
- Drive the district’s online presence including website and social media
- Assist with emergency incidents as required by senior officers
- Photography and videography
- Participate with regional PIO groups

Compensation for the position begins at $60,000 depending on qualifications.
